No one told us and the signs barely told us that you have to walk through the entire free portion of the U-Boat exhibit, at least a 15 minute hike from the entrance, until you reach the actual U, where the paid tour starts. Third - like almost everyone else, WOW! My daughter 10 and son 13 loved it so much, and I had a great time too. I need to return to Chicago and take them for at least one or two more days, despite my 4-hour drive. I've been to Chicago a handful of times and caught the attractions closer to downtown Shedd, Natural History, Sears Tower, etc.

Thank you to all my fellow contributors - you made this a terrific family weekend.

Wouldn't have caught this museum without your content. I had dragged winter coats all around Shedd the day before. Fifth: You can buy tickets ahead of time online but it has to be at least 2-days ahead to take advantage of certain discounts and select shows. I tried the night before - no dice.

I think children and interested adults will need at least two day, maybe three, just to get a thorough look at the exhibits that interest them. This Museum, with its Columbian Exposition Worlds Fair history of the early 20th century rivals any museum in the world. A great way to spend all day with tourists or friends alike. Also teaches conceited know-it-all kids an alternative surprise history lesson to what they consider "their technology" and how it was invented by struggling ingenious people they consider "old farts!

My kids are bit young, well the 6 yr old was kind of bored. The rest of the museum was fun but she was bored. We all enjoyed the coal mine. There's a mine, you can go into; a real, captured, u German submarine that you can go into; a steam train -- wow, amazing interactive exhibits for fun-filled education outing. My wife had visited the museum several times as a child but I especially wanted her to see the Christmas tree display from around the world.

Of course there is still all the things that make the museum famous to enjoy, trains, learning-friendly science displays for all ages and the old time city street are a must. I'm not that much for museum's, but this museum has something for everyone and very unique. Probably the most interesting think for me was the actual U-Boat that was caputred in WWII and the space program exhibit.

But there is such a great variety of items and so many interactive exhibits to keep you and your kids engaged. All I can think about while I was there was how much my niece and nephew would love it and it would educate them at the same time. Highly recommend!!!
